Top CB Ronald Darby Commits to Irish

(Notre Dame Football News) – After landing impressive bookends on the defensive line last year, Notre Dame has already obtained the commitments of two elite bookend cornerbacks for  2012 with the commitment of top 100 player Ronald Darby.  Darby recorded the fastest 40 time in the country at the Under Armour combine (4.31) and the highest vertical jump (36 inches.)     Darby was offered by Florida, Alabama, Auburn and USC among 30 other schools and is the second ranked corner prospect by Scout (Shephard is #3).

In track, Darby  currently owns the 3rd fastest time in the nation in the 55 meter dash (6.28),  4th fastest in the 60 meters (6.77) and is 1st in the nation  in the 200 meters (21.24).

“Ronald Darby is the deluxe package,” Potomac coach Ronnie Crump said. “He has electrifying speed and the uncanny ability to make the big play on offense, defense and on special teams. He’s a great teammate and a great young man. Right now, he relies on his speed. He needs to learn how to read eyes and body language and that will come to him if he wants to survive in college.”

  1. First it was the front 7 of the defense and now the back-end is the focus on recruiting, it is nice to see that this coaching regime is taking major steps to address problem areas and bringing in real talent at those areas, unlike before where most of the major recruits were offensive skill positions. I went to the spring game and noticed that the freshmen who enrolled early are going to contribute in a major way…..Aaron Lynch is a gamer, which since Manti I haven’t seen someone come in a contribute immediately. I think watching this kid (Ronald Darby) play ball is going to the same thing and along with Tee Shepard our corners are going to be able to play. I like the way our need areas are being addressed early and often. GO IRISH!!!!!
