my favorite Expo of all time, just because the way the PA guy at Jarry Park pronounced his name: John Boccabella. 12 years in the Bigs, with a negative career WAR, season high WAR of 1.4, and a career OPS+ of 62. He even led the league in errors one year. Definitely pretty damn mediocre.

“Jean BOC-a-BELLLLLLL-ah!” *

I wonder what the most individual seasons of 2.0+ WAR without ever having a season of 4.0 WAR is.

So good enough to be a legitimate starter but not good enough to have ever been an All-Star, though allowing that some players would be selected just so their team had a representative.

first thought: Manny Mota. But he only had 4 *

Rick Dempsey played 24 years with 3.3 his highest WAR.

He only had five seasons with WAR >= 2.0 so he's probably not the answer. He never made any All-Star team all those years, and yet, he was the 1983 World Series MVP and also picked up a ring with the 1988 Dodgers.

Benito Santiago, Sherm Lollar had 7 years * *

discover two great candidates for HOSM: Jim Dwyer and David Weathers. Dwyer 18 seasons, with no season over 1.6 and Weathers with 19 seasons, with no season over 2.2. Both had career WARS under 11.

Lifetime .219 hitter; never made the playoffs. Good find. (link)
