A few tidbits

There was some discussion (among Muffet, Marina, and Bri) about sometimes playing 40 minutes in some games last season and how that's not likely to be the case as much this season. Marina said it's actually helpful to watch the game from the bench for a while. Muffet said Jordan Nixon really steeped up on the Rome/Croatia trip. She also said just because she has 11 players this season, maybe only 6 or 7 will play, with the others on the bench having to earn their playing time. Marina commented that living with Arike has been like living with a celebrity. When asked what games on the schedule she has circled she somewhat dodged the question (and didn't mention Louisville or UConn) and mentioned only Virginia Tech, where she will play against her younger sister.

Here's the link to the interview.

Go down to the bottom of the page and click the ND video.

As Muffet has continually hinted, don't be surprised to see a lot of Jordan Nixon this year.

Marina's original instinct on the last second shot is right

When she said if she has the open 3, she'd take it.

Generally speaking, if you are down 2, you should almost always go for the 3 point shot.

Consider the general percentages: 3 point shot: 40%, 2 point shot 60% (being generous, assuming you get it in low to a post player). The chance the shot goes in is greater for the 2 point shot, but that get it into OT, not winning the game. Then the game becomes another 50% chance.

So basically:

3 point shot: 40% chance of winning
2 point shot: 60% chance of a 50% chance of winning (IOW, 30% chance of winning).

So the 3 point shot is 40% while the 2 point shot is 30%.

Thanks. That was an entertaining interview *

-- Interesting that both Marina and Bri cited Jackie as the player people will know more about come April (if they don't already).
-- Bri and Marina also thought the frosh class is a very good one.
-- MM sharing that most end-of-game plays have 2 and 3-pt. options, which..of course..was the case in the MSU game. Loved Marina saying that if she's open for a 3, "I'm shooting it."
-- Marina complimenting virtually everything about Bri's game, from toughness and quickness to knowing exactly where to be. And improved shooting, to boot!
-- Marina admitting to wanting a few minutes off to gain perspective. If that's the case (plus whatever happens in the flow of a game, such as fouls), I can most certainly see Jordan Nixon coming in for either Marina, Jackie or Arike and the four of them rotating a bunch, a la Lili T before she was injured. Assuming she plays up to what she did in Rome and Croatia.

Season can't come soon enough!

Thanks. Loved the

part about Bri’s toughness. She is no longer just a tall, slender athlete. She is a tall, strong athlete. And no posts can run with Bri. Agree. Not soon enough!

I've caught a couple of interviews and, of course, Arike has been mentioned, Notre Dame mentioned as the biggest rivalry (with a lot of teams), and Brianna Turner mentioned more than once as the toughest player to go up against "because of her athleticism and quickness."
