Last Sunday, Notre Dame inducted the seventh member of the Basketball Ring of Honor, former coach Richard “Digger” Phelps. Phelps, the second-winningest coach in the modern era at ND, took the Irish to their only NCAA tournament Final Four. The ACC Digital Network made Digger’s induction one of their “must-see moments” of the week.

Digger is not a “Notre Dame Icon” as many believe. He is very arrogant which many people recognize. When N.D. played at Marquette and he walked onto the court or should I say swaggered onto the court my brother and I (both N.D. alums) said “My God what
image does he project.”
Additionally, he ditched his wife when she became ill and has been through another divorce.
No wonder he was forced out 20 years ago !
